Itch Itch Archive

Itch used to be called Underdog. I drew Underdog, off and on, during high school and showed it to my friends whenever I had a new comic. Underdog followed a nameless, cartoony guy with big eyes and odd hair. He didn't really look like me but, basically, was me. Comics ranged from real life experiences to wacky adventures. In 2005, I started university and began submitting my comic to student newspapers. I didn't want to restrict the comic to one character, so I tried various titles and eventually settled on Itch.

Now I've decided to make Itch an honest to goodness webcomic with scheduled updates—not a very frequent schedule, but a schedule nonetheless. I've decided to update once every second Monday to ensure that I'll have time for school, jobs and pals. If I had the chance to make Itch for a living, I would definitely update more often but then I'd be shutting the door on what I'm really interested in doing: movies. So, for now, drawing and Itch are just hobbies.

What does the future hold for Itch? Awesomeness. My underdog is now named Bob and, while we have similarities, Bob is definitely not me. He is a separate, well-defined character. I've been working very hard at making Bob's friends and enemies into fully realized characters too. Itch now features Bob-less stories focusing on personalities like Felix Feelings or Mr. Quacks. In addition, I hope to improve my art. I don't draw arms like rubber tubes anymore though I think I still have some work to do. Yes, these are exciting times.

But Daniel, you might say, your webcomic sucks because you only update it every second week. Reader, I swear, whenever I have the time (and am not feeling lazy) I will post comics in between my regular updates. But seriously, lay off, I'm a full-time university student. Mostly, I'm going to concentrate on the quality of the comics. I want Itch to be funny and insightful, not cute and cliché. One last thing—I try to make each comic accessible to new readers but, if you start reading from the beginning, there is a narrative. So if you are new to Itch, start here. You'll see Bob move from high school to university and you'll see Bob change from a loveable underdog to a jerk. I hope you like Itch.

p.s.
In Daniel Discusses I refer to Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal. Here's what you need to know to follow: I grew up and went to high school in Ottawa. I completed my first year of university in Toronto. Now, I've switched schools; I'm studying and living in Montreal.

May 2008 Update:
I'm back in Toronto! I didn't like what I was studying in Montreal so I switched back to my original program in Toronto. So, I'm in Toronto for the next couple years.
